Launching on Monday 11 May 2009 at McHugh's Pub, Cord Road, Drogheda
ALL WELCOME

DROGHEDA WRITERS IN FULL BLOOM

Triumphantly combating recent suggestions that Drogheda has no writing talent, comes a brand new anthology, DROGHEDA WRITES 2, from Drogheda Creative Writers. Featuring 81 poems, stories and memoirs from 50 writers, this anthology surpasses DCW’s 2007 anthology, which had 37 contributors.

DROGHEDA WRITES 2 is launched on Monday May 11th at 8pm at The Venue in McHugh’s Pub, Chord Road, Drogheda. Everyone interested in writing is very welcome. Mayor of Drogheda, Frank Maher, and Director of Poetry Ireland, Joseph Woods, originally from Drogheda, will present the book. S.J. McArdle, Drogheda’s leading singer/songwriter will perform, and a selection of contributors will read from their work. Roger Hudson will be master of ceremonies and refreshments will be available.

Joseph Woods also contributed the Introduction, and other nationally-known writers have pieces included such as John F. Deane, founder of Poetry Ireland, poet Susan Connolly, and S.J. McArdle, fresh from a European tour, has contributed lyrics. DROGHEDA WRITES 2 is edited by award-winning poet Barbara Smith and all-rounder Roger Hudson.

Familiar Drogheda writers showcased include Tom Reilly, Ann Crilly, John “Dixie” Nugent, Marie McSweeney, Shane Fagan, John O’Rourke, Steve Downes, Nuala Early, Tom Winters, Paddy Dillon and Teddy Doyle. The cover displays Richard Moore’s painting of the Dominican Church and is designed by John Moloney. The anthology is published with the generous assistance of Drogheda Borough Council Arts Office, Beverage Business Solutions, Drogheda Credit Union and Marks & Spencer.

Retailing at €12 in bookstores, DROGHEDA WRITES 2 will be available at €10 on the launch night.

Drogheda Writes

A FEW COPIES STILL AVAILABLE!
An anthology of poems, stories and memoirs celebrating the writing talent of Drogheda
Edited by Roger Hudson and Maggie Pinder
From Drogheda Creative Writers

72 pieces of prose, memoir and poetry. 38 authors. 4 winners of the 2005 Amergin Creative Writing Awards.
Drogheda Writes, published in March 2007 is a fine reflection of the quality of Drogheda's writers.

Drogheda Creative Writers has published anthologies of its members' work before, usually photocopied and stapled painstakingly by hand - an achievement to produce at the time and successful in reaching fellow Droghedians. Now, with nineteen years of survival and mutual support as a group behind it and with the backing of the Drogheda Borough Council Arts Office (which didn't exist then) and local concerns, we are launching a more ambitious enterprise with this volume Drogheda Writes, one we hope may be repeated in the future.

We would like to congratulate all our contributors on the high standard of their writings and having the courage to submit. To any local writers who did not hear about the venture in time, our regrets and hopes that they will have another opportunity in the future.

We hope you all gain as much enjoyment from reading this amazing variety of talent as we have from producing it.

Drogheda Writes is available to purchase from Easons (Drogheda), Waterstones (Drogheda) Highlane Gallery, Drogheda Tourist Information Office and other local businesses.
